Every day, young children navigate roads and school surroundings that are often designed from an adult’s perspective. Traditional signage is often placed too high, too complex, or too dull to capture their attention. My project set out to ask:
“How might we use ground-level and low-height signage to keep children up to 6 years old safe around school areas?”
Grounded in interviews with parents, teachers, and crossing officers, the research revealed clear insights: interpret signage literally, follow ground markings instinctively, and respond best to bold colours, simple shapes, and playful repetition.
The outcome is a multi-touchpoint educational campaign that goes beyond static signs. It combines:
By integrating road safety prompts into multiple everyday touchpoints, the project makes Stop–Look–Listen a second nature for children. This approach reframes signage as a child-centred communication system embedded into learning and play.
